13 Disturbing Disney Moments That Ruined Your Childhood
6. Hellfire - The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Take it from horror films: if something is overtly religious and heavy on the damnation, it's usually pretty disturbing. Hellfire might be the perfect example of a scene made all the more terrifying for its religious consequences employed as a tool to control the populous, with Frollo threatening to burn down Paris if he doesn't get a slice of sweet Esmerelda pie.
This is also one of those Disney scenes that becomes all the more scary as you get older, with the message of the song essentially saying this woman who wants nothing to do with him has to hand herself over romantically or he'll kill her, and the whole city in backlash. Frollo is a massive scary creep as it is, and this musical number only serves to cement his status as Definitely Very Terrible.
That, and the faceless red members of the choir born from the hearth are just bloody horrid.
