13 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2018

11. Newt Is The Secret Villain - Pacific Rim: Uprising

If Guillermo del Toro wasn't still alive, he'd surely be spinning in his grave at the travesty that was Pacific Rim: Uprising.

If randomly fridging female lead Mako (Rinko Kikuchi) for...reasons wasn't bad enough, the movie later reveals that scientist Newt (Charlie Day) has become brainwashed by the malevolent entities known as the Precursors.

Not only are they using Newt as a stooge to fight the humans - effectively making Newt the antagonist of the movie - but Newt also engages in weirdly romantic drift-sex with one of the Kaiju brains that he's nicknamed Alice and keeps in a large glass jar in his apartment.

On one hand you have to admire the balls to even attempt something this wacky in a $175 million movie, but casting Charlie Day in the role of a villain is an extremely tough sell, and it ultimately doesn't work.
