10. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
It's Based On The Book... "Who Censored Roger Rabbit?" By Gary K. Wolf I know, right? How was
this thing ever a novel? Well, it was, so get over it. Robert Zemeckis' cult classic
Who Framed Roger Rabbit was actually an adaptation of a novel called "Who Censored Roger Rabbit?," written in 1981 by Gary K. Wolf, whose name alone justifies his right to write such a thing. I know what you're thinking: how do you put
Who Framed Roger Rabbit into a book so it makes sense? It just doesn't work, does it? It's the kind of movie that practically screams "I was written as a screenplay!" Changes, as you'd imagine, were made...
How Close Is It To The Book? Not that close, though the central premise is pretty much the same. The book's "cartoon characters" aren't from movies, but rather comic strips. Roger also gets murdered at the beginning of the novel, and it's his doppelganger who teams up with detective Eddie Valiant to solve the crime. There is only one line of dialogue from Wolf's novel in the whole movie: Ive got a 50-year-old lust and a 3-year-old dinky, as spoken by Baby Herman.
