13 Films That Really Needed Nicolas Cage

9. Spider-Man

The Role: Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) Why Nic Cage Would Have Improved It: There's no denying that Willem Dafoe gave a rock-solid performance as Norman Osborn, who becomes progressively more insane over the course of the movie as the Green Goblin persona takes hold. The role was originally offered to Cage by director Sam Raimi, though despite being a huge comic book nut, he turned it down for reasons unknown. We love Dafoe, but when faced with the possibility of Cage taking the role instead, we'd give it to him no contest. Spider-Man is thankfully already a pretty great movie, but Cage could have taken the Green Goblin to an entirely different place. Dafoe's Goblin is undeniably sinister and creepy, whereas Cage's would probably have been sillier and more outrageous, which is of course entirely within the goofy spirit of Raimi's Spider-Man movies anyway. Plus, the idea of Nicolas Cage playing James Franco's father is pretty damn hilarious, admit it.
