The Role: Victor von Doom aka Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon) Why Nic Cage Would Have Improved It: There's a lot to complain about in Tim Story's Fantastic Four, from the general goofiness of the whole outing to the slack premise and, well, the lame villain. Dr. Doom is one of the most iconic bad guys in the history of comic books, and yet Julian McMahon gave a curiously stilted, dull performance in the dual role, suggesting he was entirely wrong for the part. The part needs an actor who can bring a little more life to the troubled bureaucrat as he transforms into Dr. Doom, and Cage would have unquestionably knocked the role out of the park. Still, the real fun would have come when Cage got to play a cackling, wild bad guy, and though keeping his ridiculously expressive face behind a metal mask isn't exactly the greatest idea, perhaps not using that lame-a** mask from the actual 2005 is a good start: it limited McMahon's expressiveness and looked totally dumb. Get Cage, give him a mask with a little wiggle room, and this movie would have instantly been a lot better.
