13 Films That Really Needed Nicolas Cage

6. Encino Man

Encino ManThe Role: Link (Brendan Fraser) Why Nic Cage Would Have Improved It: Encino Man (known as California Man in Europe) is far from a great movie, and its greatest contribution to the world has been kick-starting the career of Brendan Fraser (see how that went). However, did you know that Fraser's role as Link, the caveman thawed out in the 20th century, was originally set for Nicolas Cage? Cage is only a few years older than Fraser, so certainly could have pulled the part off, though considering he'd already starred in the acclaimed likes of Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart, why on Earth would he have starred in something as goofy as this? While Cage couldn't have done much about the movie's so-so script, and Fraser is admittedly good at playing slackers, the thought of seeing Cage eating food out of a dog bowl, screaming at a helicopter, flipping around, drinking mustard and basically being as deliriously insane as possible is just hilarious.
