13 Horrific Horror Movie Moments That Come Out Of Nowhere

9. A Cure For Wellness - Incest!

Summer of 84
20th Century Fox

Like many of the other films described on this list, A Cure for Wellness just keeps getting more and more messed-up and deranged as it goes along - in the best possible way, that is.

An outrageously underrated horror film - and arguably one of the best movies out there with a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes - A Cure for Wellness tells the story of an executive named Lockhart (Dane DeHaan), who ends up trapped in a wellness centre he's sent to.

Over the course of this lengthy horror film, things just get weirder and weirder. It's revealed that the centre's main doctor, Volmer (Jason Isaacs, who adds another fantastic villainous performance to his filmography here) is conducting sickening experiments on the centre's guests in order to increase the lifespan of himself, his staff and a mysterious young woman named Hannah (Mia Goth), who lives at the centre.

Finally, at the end it's revealed that Volmer and Hannah are both around 200 years old... and that Hannah is Volmer's daughter. Volmer, who once impregnated his own sister in order to keep his bloodline pure, proceeds to marry and rape Hannah.

Essentially, A Cure for Wellness has one of the most messed-up final acts in any recent studio horror film. Still, after these horrific revelations, the film does give us a reasonably happy ending in which Volmer is killed and Lockhart and Hannah escape, so that's lovely.
