13 Horrific Horror Movie Moments That Come Out Of Nowhere

7. Cannibal Holocaust - The Adulteress' Punishment

When one thinks of controversial horror movies, 1980's Cannibal Holocaust is one of the first that leaps to mind and with good reason. A film that literally got its director arrested as people thought it was a snuff film, Cannibal Holocaust is one of the nastiest and cruellest horror movies of all time, and it's a very tough one to get through.

Still, having said that, it's all reasonably chilled out at first. The opening parts of the film see Professor Harold Monroe (Robert Kerman) venturing into the South American rainforest in order to find a missing documentary crew and though there's an atmosphere of unease in the air, there's nothing excessively graphic- wait, spoke too soon.

Out of nowhere, the film shows us an extremely gruesome scene in which a male tribesman punishes a woman for adultery by repeatedly raping her with a sharp object before bludgeoning her to death.

And don't be fooled by this being an 80s movie - Cannibal Holocaust has aged well in the worst kind of way, and the violence is still just as vivid and nasty today.

It's this sickening sequence that immediately confirms to the viewer that they are in for one of the most horrid viewing experiences they'll ever have - those who don't immediately turn off at this point, anyhow.
