13 Iconic Movie Characters Who Were Supposed To Die (But Didn't)

10. Spock - Star Trek II

Death Of Spock
Paramount Pictures

The Original Plan

Spock was actually supposed to die in two different ways in The Wrath Of Khan (well, three if you count the simulation scene at the start). As Leonard Nimoy had expressed reluctance to return to the franchise, Paramount were allegedly forced to acquiesce to his demands for a dramatic death scene, which originally came in the first act, to mimic the impact of Janet Leigh's death in Psycho.

Sadly, the script leaked to massive fan negativity, so Spock was saved (temporarily) and his death scene was shifted to the end.

And that was initially supposed to be permanent, partly because Paramount chief Michael Eisner believed that the actor hated Star Trek and had demanded in his contract that Spock be killed.

What Happened Instead?

Apparently, Eisner's belief was incorrect, and Nimoy was so excited after seeing The Wrath Of Khan that he expressed his desire not only to return, but to direct. Due to Eisner's reluctance, he was forced to convince the chief that he actually didn't hate Star Trek.

He went on to direct The Voyage Home, and was the only member of the original cast invited to be part of JJ Abrams' rebooted series.
