13 Incredibly Stupid Moments From Superman Movies

4. Lois Lane Is Kidnapped For No Reason - Man Of Steel

Lois Lane Despite the presence of Superman III and IV in the cinematic world, Man Of Steel probably has the stupidest script in the entire franchise. Individual moments like Superman's inexplicable 5 year holiday in Superman Returns, and everything to do with both Nuclear Man (in Superman IV) and Richard Pryor (in Superman III) aside, the script is poorly written and full of holes, relying on spectacle and gravitas to paper over the gaps. The reactionary moments, like the terraforming machine's over-powered and unprecedented defence system - despite it being a peaceful invention meant for mere terraforming, and not invading planets - are the worst moments in the film, but there's also a commitment to unnecessary drama, like Perry White's run to safety, that undermine the overall success of the film. In another example, and proving the flabby over-writing of parts of the script, Lois Lane is taken hostage along with Superman for absolutely no fathomable reason. Zod has Superman, and reads his mind, achieving the one thing he needs - the location of the codex - so the presence of the feisty human has literally no explanation beyond putting her in peril to eek out a little more tension.
