13 Kick-Ass Upcoming Movies Nobody Is Talking About
5. The Kid Who Would Be King
After 2011's excellent Attack The Block, which launched the career of John Boyega and his writing work on Tin Tin and Ant-Man (when Edgar Wright was still involved), big things were expected of Joe Cornish. But aside from a cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, he's not done a great deal (aside for being tipped to direct Star Trek Beyond for a while).
That might explain why his next porject, the British fantasy film The Kid Who Would Be King has been mostly overlooked so far. Coming in 2019, the fantasy stars Louis Serkis as schoolboy Alex who discovers Excalibur and ends up wrapped up on a quest to stop a medieval villain (played by Rebecca Ferguson) from destroying the world.
It sounds like the perfect sort of thing for younger audiences looking for a new fantasy property to get into and Cornish's track record suggests real potential. And of course, Patrick Stewart is involved as Merlin, which is a huge boost.
