13 Major Revelations And Hints From The Ant-Man Trailer
9. I Need You To Be The Ant-Man
The question here is why? Not just why Ant-Man, but why Scott Lang? He's not the best thief (he got arrested after all), he's not the most imposing hero (he's more Taxi Driver than Hulk) and there are probably 100 more suitable people in LA, where it's set; not least Iron Man and Daredevil who live in those part (at least in the comics). Reading between the lines and going on hints already established, Pym is alienated from SHIELD and the Avengers, so no super-help; he already knows Lang - whether just because he knows he tried to rob him, or more likely because he was an employee of his company for a while, and tried an inside job - and Lang also has a very personal reason for wanting to infiltrate the company (his daughter). But even that might not be enough of a link, and there are actually more hints in there... Earlier in production, Matt Gerald - who played White Power Dave in the one-shot All Hail The King - was cast as a villain, leading some to believe he was playing the same character, still locked up in Seagate Prison. Since then he's been dropped, and so has the character, but it gives you some indication of a possible tie in to the Iron Man/Mandarin arc, and a hint that Lang might actually learn of some key information in Seagate that makes him the best candidate to be Ant-Man. He knows the threat on a personal level.
