13 Massive Movie Predictions For The Rest Of 2018

7. Mortal Engines Is 2018's Biggest Box Office Bomb

It's hard to imagine any blockbuster movie released this year bombing harder than Mortal Engines, a $100 million post-apocalyptic steampunk movie based on Philip Reeve's acclaimed 2001 novel.

There are red flags all over the place with this one: it's director Christian Rivers' feature debut, there aren't any A-listers among the cast, steampunk rarely does well at the box office, and the marketing doesn't seem to be making a dent with audiences so far.

And if that's not enough, it's releasing on December 14, where it'll be facing off against the likes of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns. Basically, it hasn't got a hope in hell of grossing $200 million and actually turning a profit, even with Peter Jackson producing.
