7. The Creature (Doug Jones) - The Shape Of Water

The Role: A classified scientific experiment currently only known as "the creature", which is kept prisoner insider a U.S. government lab during the Cold War and forms a bond with a mute woman who works in the facility (Sally Hawkins).

Why You Should Be Excited: First things first, the above image is of Abe Sapien from Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy, who of course isn't an original character, though the early responses to The Shape of Water's first trailer have stated that Doug Jones' creature bears a strong resemblance to Abe, to the point that some even suspect the film may be a secret Hellboy spin-off, either starring Abe or another member of his species.

At present the movie officially isn't related to Hellboy, so the creature still passes as an original character for now, but considering how fantastic Doug Jones has proven himself at playing alien, otherworldly creatures in del Toro's prior films, it's easy to be excited about his work here.
