The Role: Mildred Hayes takes the law into her own hands when her daughter is murdered and, months later, the Missouri police force has still made little effort to catch the killer.

Why You Should Be Excited: Frances McDormand is a fantastic actress who's gone a few years without a truly ripe and memorable role, but that seems set to change with writer-director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths) at the helm.

It seems that the majority of the movie will see her bristling against bumbling cops played by Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, and from the single red-band trailer dropped so far, it's clear the film's going to give McDormand every opportunity to curse, run riot and make every man in her vicinity look like a total moron.

It wouldn't be at all surprising if she scored some awards traction for her work here, which looks volcanic and hilarious in near-equal measure.
