3. Blair Witch

The Originals: 1999's found footage masterpiece was a real game-changer for the horror genre, creating an altogether more intimate horror movie that benefited hugely from its highly convincing viral marketing campaign.

Sadly 2000's meta-sequel, Blair Witch: Book of Shadows, was an absolute trainwreck, essentially killing the franchise for more than 15 years.

The Threequel: Last year's Blair Witch arrived out of nowhere, secretly made under its previous title The Woods before being finally revealed as a Blair Witch sequel at its Comic-Con premiere, where it received rave reviews deeming it "one of the scariest movies ever made".

As it turned out, Blair Witch was a mediocre soft reboot of the franchise, treading back over the original's most memorable beats with a few forgettable high-tech additions.

Once more discerning critics got to see the movie, the Rotten Tomatoes score quickly tanked and its real mediocrity was fully revealed. It's a damn shame, as this could've been something really special.
