13 Most Disappointing Movie Threequels

11. Alien 3

The Originals: Ridley Scott's 1979 original Alien and James Cameron's 1986 follow-up speak for themselves, the former introducing audiences to the Xenomorph with a suspenseful slow-burn, while the latter opted for a nerve-wracking, and no-less excellent, action thriller.

Quite rightly, they're popularly regarded as two of the greatest films ever made.

The Threequel: David Fincher made an ambitious but ultimately sloppy directorial debut thanks to Fox's constant creative meddling, resulting in an end product that squandered an impeccable cast and was ultimately too miserable for its own good.

Plus, there are bad digital aliens and Newt and Hicks were unceremoniously killed off before it even got going, the latter of which is enough to make a lot of hardcore Alien fans hate it.

It's an interesting experiment up to a point, but a pretty stamina-draining sit all the same.
