6. Rocket & Groot

Hints

James Gunn's removal from his position with Marvel Studios - and not just as Guardians Vol 3 director - might well have changed the shape of Phase 4 and the studio's plans to expand their cosmic focus, but there's no reason to think some of those plans might not survive the transition.

Gunn had been credited with expanding those cosmic stories by spinning off some of his Guardians characters and Vin Diesel revealed that the director was keen to make one dedicated to Rocket and Groot:

“[Writer/director] James Gunn has always wanted a Rocket and Groot movie. And I know that Disney is very much into being successful. And the most successful poster in Disney’s future is the poster that has ‘Groot vs. Hulk.’ … (The world) cannot wait to see it.”

Gunn also told fans during a Q+A session that he would be exploring Rocket's origin in a future movie, which seems to suggest a spin-off was under consideration.

Hopes

A prequel explaining how Rocket came to be and then exploring his fledgling relationship with Groot would be great, considering the potential in a weird team-up movie. As long as Marvel hired someone like Gunn (or even better let Miller and Lord make the Solo movie they should have made for LucasFilm) it could be a really great movie.
