9. Helen Turns Into A Spider - Enemy
The Ending: After Adam (Jake Gyllenhaal) assumes the identity of Anthony (also Jake Gyllenhaal), he begins talking to Anthony's wife Helen (Sarah Gadon), who doesn't respond. Adam enters the bedroom only to find that Helen has transformed into a gigantic tarantula which fills the entire room. The spider cowers in fear from Adam, while all Adam can do is give an exasperated stare before the movie cuts to black.
How It Trolled Audiences: Even though this story of a man chasing down his doppelganger was pretty weird from its opening scene, which depicts a naked woman crushing a spider to death in high heels, nobody could have seen this ending coming. Some have argued that the spider symbolises some sort of Invasion of the Body Snatchers-esque political commentary, while others declare that the spider cowering reflects Adam's own fear of commitment. Whether you buy into any of the myriad interpretations or not, the giant spider was a total troll, intended to test the integrity of our bowels and our underwear, which were very nearly soiled by this totally out-of-nowhere ending.
