13 Movie Sequels That Shouldn't Have Been Made
4. Jaws: The Revenge
What is there to say about Jaws: The Revenge? The original was of course a classic. Simple, tense, brutal, scary, brilliantly acted and tightly written. Jaws 2 was strong, too, and didn't fully sully the film that came before it. Jaws 3 was a catastrophe, and could have easily filled this part of the list. However, that honour goes to Jaws: The Revenge, simply because it was the last in the series.
First of all, there's the terrible effects. Looking back, it's hard to understand how the films' special effects got worse as time went on, but the fourth Jaws is arguably the worst of the bunch. Secondly, there's the plot. Like many entries on this list, this is a film borne out of a need to force a sequel out. There's no tension in the story, the characters are thin and weakly acted, and the dialogue is uninspired and often cheesy.
Also, it takes a lot to make Michael Caine look bad, but this film pulls it off it spades.
It's a shame, too, that it came to this. The 1975 original should have been left alone, sequel-less, but its legacy ends with this bland, wholly pointless flick. Dead in the water has never been such an apt expression.
