4. The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time

Remember the Sharknado franchise? Back in 2013 SyFy's terrible shark-based disaster film became a social media phenomenon, with millions ironically watching the movie to savour its atrocious visual effects, performances, script and direction.

But because SyFy couldn't leave well alone, they decided to milk the "property" dry with an increasingly desperate glut of five sequels, which quickly went the fully self-aware route and jettisoned a good deal of the original's charm in the process.

But the series finally came to an end last summer with the sixth film, The Last Sharknado: It's About Time (get it?). Sadly by this point the wilfully crappy effects, excessive cameos and nonsense plotting had long felt incredibly ordinary, and so the franchise ducked out on more of a whimper than a bang.

It's probable that Sharknado will end up rebooted in the near-future, but at least for a while we've all got a breather.
