7. The Joker Solo Movie

What We Knew

Jared Leto once had three Joker movies listed as being in active development (albeit in the early stages) and in the snap of a finger, two of them have bitten the dust.

As well as his Harley team-up movie, Leto had his Joker solo project announced back in June 2018 - somewhat unexpectedly - and while little was detailed at the time, it was a firm confirmation that Variety ran. They said Warner Bros were looking to expand the universe out of Suicide Squad.

Why It Was Cancelled & The Future

Again, there's no firm confirmation, but the big reason here is probably the shift in focus with Suicide Squad. With James Gunn hired to make a soft reboot of that, it makes no sense that the original film should continue to have spin-offs and expansions.

Sure, Birds Of Prey exists, but that's a reclamation project for Harley Quinn rather than an expansion, so it's a different matter.

Could we see another Joker solo movie in the future? Yes. It's called Joker and it has Joaquin Phoenix in it. If that's a success, count on him being the active Joker for a while and meeting Batman. Anything else is just needless complication.
