What We Knew

When Deadpool 2 was announced, we were also told that Fox were working on an X-Force movie for the third in the franchise, with Drew Goddard brought in to write and direct. Ryan Reynolds would be back and so too were Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, while other Deadpool supporting cast would presumably return.

Rumours also suggested that Olivia Munn's Psylocke might return and that Logan's X-23 would appear as the new Wolverine, according to Bryan Singer. It would have been great, in other words.

Why It Was Cancelled & The Future

This is slightly different, because X-Force hasn't been officially cancelled according to the report, but it's all-but cancelled because of the impossible conditions for it to stay in business. According to DanielRPK, the film would have to start production in just two months to beat the Disney clock, so it's pretty much not happening.

Could we see an X-Force movie with Disney though? It would be ludicrous for Marvel Studios not to bring Deadpool into the MCU (or into an alternate MCU universe even), but that's more likely to bee his own movie. Maybe Cable will follow, but who knows.

Let's hope that the best elements - like the new X-23 don't end up lost in the shuffle.
