13 Movies With Hilariously Inappropriate Product Placement

12. White Castle - Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle

Product Placement: The entire movie, pretty much. For starters, it's in the title, and the plot revolves around Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) getting stoned, seeing a sexy advert on TV for White Castle, and then spending the entire night trying to get to a branch of the restaurant. Hell, Anthony Anderson shows up for one scene as an employee of a rival fast food chain and reels off a line of dialogue that sounds like it came straight from White Castle's PR department ("those tender little White Castle burgers with those little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in your mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one"). Then there's the finale, where Harold and Kumar finally make it to White Castle, and of course, every bite is captured in glorious slow-motion, before Kumar declares, "That was the best meal of my life." Why It's Inappropriate: Because what company wants to allow themselves be openly associated with a film celebrating illegal drug use? Apparently White Castle, because they actively encouraged the partnership and even sold commemorative cups to promote the movie's release. Krispy Kreme were also approached for a tie-in, but predictably enough declined. Sure, White Castle doesn't exactly have the same family-friendly image as, say, McDonalds or Burger King, but in a society where people are just looking to be offended by something, aligning a company with illegal (albeit not particularly immoral) activity can be a dangerous financial decision.
