Pulp Fiction is not only Tarantino's greatest film; it is also one of the greatest films period. Jam-packed with classic scenes and memorable characters, it won the Oscar for Best Writing and cemented the director's place as a master of the screenplay and the crime genre - perhaps more so than Scorsese. It is the dialogue that is, perhaps, the only saving grace for the characters. They're all absolute denigrates ranging from hitmen to rapists - but we don't care because they're just so funny. Samuel L. Jackson could make pocket-protectors cool if given the chance, but armed with a razor-sharp script, he delivers his single greatest performance. His scenes are filled with conversations about cheeseburgers; foot massages; divine intervention and THAT biblical quote, while he goes about killing people and cleaning up their brains in a car. Perhaps the only thing uncool about the film is John Travolta's haircut. Although we could talk about all of Tarantino's films in this regard, most notably Reservoir Dogs and the two Kill Bills, it is Pulp Fiction that will go down in history as his finest work and the ultimate definition of bad guys being awesome.
