13. Epic Movie

Given their string of absolutely mirthless "comedies" so far, it's incredible that Hollywood keeps giving Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer a chance to make movies. They scored one passable hit with Scary Movie, but since then they've trotted out the same tired garbage starring actors who should definitely know better or who simply can't afford to do worse.

Epic Movie is about the worst thing the pair have done, though there would definitely be compelling cases for several other of their supposed parodies. The reason this one was so infuriating was not just that it was offensively bad, but that it lied about how bad it was. Through a combination of hiring actually recognisable faces (like Kal Penn, Crispin Glover, David Carradine and even Kevin Hart) and promising to parody brands as popular as Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribbean and the Narnia films it SOMEHOW made four times its budget.

And that meant it looked like it was actually good - the leap in the box office chart suggesting a lie that then convinced more to go and see it. It was the most vicious of cycles and can be the only reason it remains the pair's highest grossing film. Unfortunately, it was utter, unfunny trash and if you managed to make it through it in the cinema, you're a masochist.
