13 Movies That Depressingly Predicted The Future

1. The Rise Of Reality TV - The Truman Show

And finally, no movie is as hauntingly prescient as The Truman Show, which follows a man, Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey), whose entire life is documented as part of a reality show which he is completely unaware of.

Less than a year after the movie's late 1998 release, Big Brother debuted in the Netherlands and became a monster hit which helped usher in countless similar shows, creating the blueprint that today has made the likes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians such a hit.

The illegality of a TV station owning a human being means the horrific reality of the movie will probably never happen, unless the subject actually volunteers for it, but in reflecting the popularity of reality TV, and how lacking in reality it is actually is, it is a stunning work of spec fiction come to life.
