13 Movies That Destroyed Solo: A Star Wars Story At The Box Office
3. Fifty Shades Of Grey
Box Office: $571.0 million
Alright, this one really hurts. A PG-13 entry into the most iconic sci-fi franchise in existence couldn't even get within $150 million of a low-effort adaptation of an erotic Twilight fan fic? Seriously?
Granted, there was an enormous amount of audience curiosity about how much nudity would actually be featured in Fifty Shades of Grey - not a lot, as it turned out - and the repressed middle-aged female demographic sure turns up when Hollywood occasionally invites them out. Even so, $571 million!?
Solo did at least top the two Fifty Shades sequels at the box office, though only barely (they made $380.9 million and $370.6 million respectively).
When a lame skin flick with problematic relationship dynamics can't be beaten by a sci-fi heist thriller, you know something's gone horribly wrong somewhere.
