13 Movies That Destroyed Solo: A Star Wars Story At The Box Office

4. X-Men: Apocalypse

Box Office: $543.9 million

Despite a thoroughly uninspired marketing campaign and wildly mixed reviews, X-Men: Apocalypse still turned in solid box office results, tripling its $180 million budget if falling far short of Days of Future Past's $747.8 million cume.

Though audiences definitely started to lose interest in the X-Men franchise at this point, Apocalypse's box office was most likely rescued by the Jennifer Lawrence factor, given her strong appeal to both teen and adult audiences.

Even at its most forgettable and generic here, the X-Men franchise pulled in numbers other franchises would love to have at their peak. Though both movies suffered from a healthy serving of pre-release negativity, even Solo's solidly positive reviews couldn't put it within spitting distance of Apocalypse's respectable commercial performance.
