13 Movies That Scored A Legendary F With CinemaScore

9. The Box

The Box
Warner Bros.

After he destroyed his reputation by making a terrible director's cut of Donnie Darko and then Southland Tales back-to-back, Richard Kelly returned in 2009 for a big screen adaptation of Richard Matheson's Button, Button short story.

His reward for seeking to make a suspenseful drama with Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella was an F and a bit of a critical panning.

Did It Deserve It?

Like Southland Tales, The Box is ultimately a poor execution of some good ideas - it's gripping in parts and the story is relatively interesting (which you'd expect from a Matheson), but it fails in the final production - which is a little preposterous, frankly. Still, the F is a little unfair given that it made back its budget.
