How It Ended: After Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Taylor Johnson's characters overdose on drugs so they can die together, the film literally rewinds to reveal that this was just a dream, and the ending plays out again, leading to a happy version where the bad guys are caught and the trio get to live happily ever after in a beachside hut.

How It Should've Ended: The three dying together was a much stronger ending and how Don Winslow's novel actually concluded.

Director Oliver Stone claimed that he felt the ending didn't fit the tone of his movie, so he opted for the classic "it was all a dream" nonsense instead, which was an awful fit all by itself.
