13 Movies That Should've Ended 5 Minutes Earlier

5. The Departed

How It Ended: After undercover cop Billy Costigan's (Leonardo DiCaprio) funeral, police mole Sullivan (Matt Damon) returns home to his apartment, only to find Sgt. Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) waiting for him. He shoots him in the head in revenge for Costigan's death and leaves. The End.

How It Should've Ended: In the original Hong Kong movie, Infernal Affairs, Damon's character actually gets away with it, but even a director as brilliant as Scorsese couldn't resist the urge to leave audiences a little less depressed before the credits rolled. It's far more interesting if Sullivan survives but has to live with what happened.

Also, a lot of people hate the incredibly on-the-nose image of the rat walking along the window frame. If you end the film on the funeral scene, it gets even better than it already is.
