13 Predictions For Next Summer's Biggest Movies
7. Aladdin Is The Worst-Reviewed Summer Blockbuster
Prediction: For as many smart choices as Disney has made with their recent live-action remakes of their animated classics, it's hard to have a ton of faith in the maddeningly inconsistent Guy Ritchie turning in a legitimately good - and moreover, well-reviewed - movie.
Though there are countless films due for release next summer which could easily go either way - namely The New Mutants, Top Gun: Maverick and Godzilla: King of the Monsters - not one of them invites quite as much scepticism as this project.
Even with all the suspicious word we've heard on The New Mutants, Ritchie hasn't ever proven himself with a budget quite this big or material quite this family-friendly. Don't be surprised if it's a tonal car crash and critics hate it, scoring 20% or less on the Tomatometer.
Why It Might Not Happen: Disney's live-action movies have generally been well-received so far, and they're clearly exerting a significant amount of control over their filmmakers to ensure they turn in the expected results.
Plus, it's being written by one of the minds behind The Shape of Water and John August, who has written a number of Tim Burton's better recent movies. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed?
