13 Small Changes That Would Make Terrible Movies Awesome
7. Morpheus Dies Instead Of Trinity - The Matrix Revolutions
The Matrix Revolutions was the immensely disappointing finale to the Wachowskis' hugely popular sci-fi trilogy, bringing Neo's journey to an end in infuriatingly ambiguous fashion while ratcheting up the CGI-slathered action to laughably absurd levels.
One of the stranger creative decisions was to have Trinity die after being rescued by Neo in the previous movie.
Though it plays well enough into the Architect's warning in Reloaded ("She is going to die and there is nothing you can do to stop it"), it just seems silly to kill her again after devoting so much time to rescuing her in that movie. The overlong, unintentionally comical nature of her final death scene sure didn't help either.
It would've been way more emotionally gratifying if Morpheus was the one to somehow die for Neo, considering that he brought Neo on-board in the first place, and him dying to ensure Neo completes his mission would've been incredibly poetic.
Yes, there still would've been the aforementioned issues to deal with, but at least Morpheus' death would've been an easy emotional high-point for the movie and perhaps even the series. Everyone knows Laurence Fishburne would've killed the scene and made the film so much more memorable as a result.
