13 Supporting Movie Characters You Loved More Than The Hero

12. Hit Girl - Kick-Ass

Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass was a great addition to the comic book movie genre with its delicious subversions of expectations and a healthy appetite for hyper-violence that always seems to go down well. The only problem with it - and it was by design - was that Kick-Ass himself was a bit... limited as a hero.

He's a teenage nerd launched into the world of superheroes - the reality of an origin like Spider-Man's rather than him hitting the ground running - and he's a bit of a loser. As already qualified, this is intentional, but it does mean that two of the film's supporting characters outshine him fairly hugely.

Nic Cage's Big Daddy is obviously great, but it's Chloe Grace Moretz's Hit Girl who stands out even more. She's unexpected, outrageous and incredibly cool, while also dealing with the contradiction of being a schoolgirl in awe of her over-bearing but well-meaning father. Sure, she drops a c-bomb but it's much more complex than that.
