13 Supporting Movie Characters You Loved More Than The Hero

11. Dory - Finding Nemo

If you want any indication of how beloved forgetful sidekick Dory was among Finding Nemo fans, you need only look at the performance of her stand-alone sequel at the box office a full 13 years after the original release. She might not have remembered her family, but we remembered her.

Dory's eternal appeal wasn't just in Ellen Degeneres' delightful and very funny vocal performance, it was thanks to the devastating backstory that was only hinted at before Finding Dory fleshed it out. She was loving, selfless and fragile, in the way all of the best Disney characters are. And she stole the show completely.

Marlin and Nemo were obviously great too, but Marlin was prickly and neurotic and needed Dory to soften him and Nemo was a passenger in his own story for a lot of the time. Cute, yes, but not exactly profound aside from his Underdog Overcomes story.
