At the climax of Jan de Bont's electrifying action movie Speed, Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) finds himself atop a runaway subway train, wrestling for control of a deadman-bomb detonator with terrorist Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper). As Payne appears to get the better of him, he can't help but let out a cocky remark, "You're so smart, right Jack? You piece of s***! I'm the guy with the plan 'cause I'm smarter than you! I'm smarter than you!" However, Jack notices a low-hanging light heading their way, and uses his strength to hold Payne's head in its path, causing him to be decapitated by the light. Jack quickly grabs the detonator, and as Payne's body disappears, he shouts, "Yeah? Well, I'm taller!" The line is obviously intended to be tongue-in-cheek, but it's a weak, cheesy comeback that's more likely to have audiences asking themselves, "Did he really just say...that!?", rather than laughing at the overwhelming "wit" of it.
