13 Things You Didn't Know About Friday 13th Part III
5. The Newscast Is Wildly Inaccurate
Talking of that news bulletin on the campsite murders from Part 2, it's a typically overblown tabloid affair, and wildly inaccurate.
Rather than cut it into the newscast, Zito chose to just replay the last but one shot of the previous movie (Ginny being loaded into the ambulance in the morning by police and medics) exactly as it was presented in Part 2, and from the same angle. Whether intended or not, this retcons the previous movie to prove that the cameras were at the massacre scene the following morning along with the authorities and emergency services.
However, despite having reporters and a full camera crew on the scene, the broadcast refers to bodies being strewn across the camping ground. In fact, Jason had dragged most of them to his shack in the woods - that's where Ginny finds them in one of the climactic scenes in Part 2, alongside the severed, mummified head of Mrs Voorhees and the decomposed corpse of poor Alice from five years earlier.
The newsreader also mentions Ginny having survived "repeated attacks by the axe-wielding killer" when Jason hasn't killed anyone with an axe by this point. It's not until Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter, the fourth film in the series, that he goes anywhere near an axe - in point of fact, at this stage he's an equal opportunities murderer and will use anything to hand, variety being the spice of life and all.
Just goes to show, you can't believe anything you see on TV.
