13 Things You Didn't Know About Friday 13th: The Final Chapter
4. That Dancing Was All Crispin Glover
The amazing Crispin Glover played the nerdy Jimmy Mortimer, one of the franchise’s most loved characters. Glover is considered one of the most talented actors of his generation, but is also famous for being rather an odd fish.
That amazing, herky-jerky dance sequence in the living room with Tina (played by Camilla More) was completely improvised for the cameras: it was essentially the way Glover actually danced in clubs at the time. More remembers it fondly:
“I am supposed to be this shy demure, kind of like wallflower, and he’s dancing so crazily, and I was watching him, alarmed. I think I pretty much acted exactly how I was feeling, which was like, ‘What the flip is going on here?'”
While Lion’s ‘Love Is A Lie’ is the song playing in the film, this was an overdub in post-production: the song playing on set was AC/DC’s ‘Back In Black’, which might go some way toward explaining why he’s so wildly out of time… then again, judging by his moves, perhaps that’s just him.
There are apparently many other stories of Glover being wildly eccentric on set and on location, like the time he refused to step in front of the cameras until the crew fished his toy submarine out of the water, or the day when he refused to rehearse, claiming to be ‘in a rain mood’.
