13 Things You Didn't Know About Friday The 13th Part 2
10. Jason Doesn’t Track Alice Back To California
For years, fans have assumed that Jason, a backwoods, backwards psychopath, somehow followed Alice Hardy home from New Jersey to California to kill her, inventing implausible, elaborate confections like "he memorised what her car looked like" to explain how this was at all possible.
That’s not actually the case: the prologue where Alice Hardy takes an ice pick to the temple after finding Mrs Voorhees’ head in her fridge isn’t set in California, but in a town near Crystal Lake.
Although the movie doesn't make it clear, the novelisation of Friday The 13th Part 2 informs us that Alice, still traumatised by the events of the first movie, had returned to the scene of the murders a few weeks after being released from hospital to try to obtain some form of closure, and that Jason - who’d been living in the woods for decades and had witnessed Alice decapitating his beloved mother - had seen her wandering near the lake, recognised her and followed her a few miles to the house she was renting.
That makes the phone call with her worried mum suddenly make a great deal more sense. Of course Alice returning to the scene of a massacre where she’d been forced to cut someone's head off isn’t something a mother would ever understand.
