13 Things You Didn't Know About Friday The 13th Part 2
11. The Real Reason That Alice Dies
One of the initial plans for Friday The 13th Part 2 was for the original film’s hero Alice Hardy to be a recurring hero, facing off against Jason in sequel after sequel.
But it was actor Adrienne King who helped put paid to that idea. She’d been very aggressively stalked by a fan during the release of the original film: the nutjob had found out where she lived, had taken photos of her that he would slip under her front door, had even broken into her apartment to deface her artwork. Finally, the man confronted her at home and held a gun to her head.
Her assailant was imprisoned, but the incident had traumatised King, prompting her to leave the public eye. Not keen to reexperience stardom, she agreed to work on the sequel but made it clear that she didn't want a lead role.
That led to the finished film’s prologue, a classic piece of misdirection - famously homaged in the prologue to Scream - that saw the ‘final girl’ killed off at the beginning.
However, no one had explained to King what was intended. She turned up where she was supposed to be, not realising that the rest of the movie had in fact already been shot without her and that the reason she hadn’t been provided with a script was because there wasn’t one. She would end up improvising the majority of her scenes over the next two days, including the whole of Alice’s telephone conversation with her worried mother.
