13 Things You Didn't Know About Friday The 13th Part 2

Friday The 13th Part 2 is infamous in horror circles for a) not being quite as gory as you’d expect a sequel to a famously gory movie to be (it had close to a minute of blood n’ guts snipped by censors in order to avoid the dreaded X rating) and b) for that impalement scene, where randy couple Jeff and Sandra are speared together in bed by an actual spear.

Such a shame that the scene is lifted from Bay Of Blood, Mario Bava's seminal giallo from 1971, which has an almost identical scene of lovers getting skewered by the killer while in a compromising position.

Dardano Sacchetti, the writer of the original story for Bay Of Blood, credits Bava himself with the idea. Bava’s movie is legendary in horror geek circles for its murder set-pieces, so stylish that they’re an artistic achievement in and of themselves - and in this case, because of the aforementioned cuts, Bava’s version comes out on top, if you’ll forgive the expression.

It’s not just that scene, either - while Bay Of Blood’s wheelchair-bound old lady is strangled, Friday The 13th Part 2’s machete-to-the-face death scene for poor Mark is also lifted from Bay Of Blood: and again, because of the censor’s vicious scissors, the original is significantly better. The wheelchair flying down the steps is all Steve Miner, though.
