13 Uncanny Similarities Between Venom And Catwoman
7. The Antagonists
Remember those facilities that both films feature the protagonist sneaking into early on, only to accidentally get their superpowers because of it? Well turns out that in both cases, the people who run those facilities are actually the film's primary antagonist.
For Catwoman, it's Sharon Stone's Laurel Hedare as the maniacal head of Hedare Beauty. For Venom, it's Riz Ahmed's Carlton Drake as the 'visionary' scientist who started the Life Foundation. In both cases, these are one-dimensional villains that force respected actors to dole out some truly reprehensible monologues about their respective businesses.
Even more so, both characters wind up using the product they are testing on others (Beau-line in Catwoman, the symbiotes in Venom) on themselves and giving themselves superpowers with which to fight back against the protagonist. Each of them is also only tangentially related to the protagonist, gets minimal amounts of screentime, little-to-zero backstory, and is motivated by changing the world to better fit their views.
