13 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed (And Why)

12. The Mummy

Valerian Dane DeHaan Cara Delevingne
Universal

Release Date: June 9, 2017

Why It's Doomed: Even accepting the hardcore quarter of Mummy fans who don't want another Mummy film without Brendan Fraser, this Tom Cruise-led reboot looks as generic as blockbuster movies come.

With questionable visual effects and horrendous marketing including the leak of an unintentionally hilarious IMAX trailer with half the audio missing (which promptly went viral), this one looks like a joke while taking itself utterly seriously.

It's never wise to bet against Cruise at the box office, but it'd be shocking if this was one of his big hits, and critics would need to be seriously in need of some summer escapism to let its formulaic thrills slide. The female mummy (played by Sofia Boutella) is a nice idea, but otherwise this looks D.O.A.
