13 Upcoming Superhero Movies That Could Beat Civil War
5. Black Panther
Why It Could Beat Civil War: Black Panther was one of Civil War's sure-fire MVPs, bringing a whole new brand of superhero to the MCU with charm and sure style. His own movie is certain to expand on this, presumably taking place largely if not entirely in Wakanda, while quite probably reuniting him with Everett Ross as his envoy, and Age of Ultron's Ulysses Klaue as the villain.
With the terrific Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed) co-writing and directing, it's easy to believe that, above all else, Black Panther will be a more visually coherent and stylistically impressive effort than Civil War, which was more rough around the edges and at times quite flat. Also, if the movie continues to explore the effect his father's death had on him, this could be surprisingly dramatically resonant.
Why It Might Not: Black Panther may need to do a lot to match Civil War's sense of fun, especially considering how stern T'Challa was shown to be in Civil War, and it could ultimately end up being more about its setting while putting the drama and high-action to something of a backseat (but we expect not).
