Another Japanese title, independent film Suicide Club deals with the disturbing subject matter of mass suicide. The movie gained a big cult following largely due to its notoriety and also won the Jury Prize for most ground-breaking film at Fantasia Film Festival. In terms of sheer spectacle and lasting impact, Suicide Club is, simply put, an excellent film. A suicide epidemic is sweeping Japan, even among hordes of teenage girls who are making pacts with each other. As Detective Kuroda and his crew investigate, they begin to suspect that maybe there's more to it than meets the eye. Not only does Suicide Club deal with a difficult subject, it does so in the goriest of manners, a visual presentation designed to shock its audience to the core. With bodies rocketing off roofs and flying in front of trains, there is definitely enough carnage to take in.
