13 Ways DC Is Attempting To Combat The Marvel Films Model

2. Team Comes First, Then Spinoffs

Batman V Superman is officially introducing us to the remaining members of the DC Trinity: Batman and Wonder Woman. By the end of the movie, it€™s rumoured that almost all of the Justice League will cameo. This will all directly lead into Justice League Part One which releases in 2017, meaning that DC wants us to glimpse the team first as a means to get to know everyone.

From there, all of the spinoffs will happen, with us already having met the likes of Cyborg and the Flash before they go off on their own. Each solo outing is given a head start since we€™re already acquainted with each character. This also means that whatever conflict they face in the film (rumours peg it as an alien invasion), it€™s sure to shape each of the characters' journeys.

Marvel€™s approach was considerably different, slowly letting us meet their stars in a variety of disparate settings, before bringing them all together. The Avengers built up an unreal amount of hype for one movie, so now DC€™s trying to invert that same model to build up hype for many movies.

Quite frankly, Marvel€™s method was immensely successful but any effort to mimic that is going to reek as laziness on DC€™s part. This way, they both avoid too many comparisons to The Avengers, and find a way to help enrich each of their films with pre-existing character depth typically reserved only for sequels.
