13 Ways DC Is Attempting To Combat The Marvel Films Model

11. Diversity In Their Superheroes

There will come a time when non-white and non-male superheroes will become commonplace in film. That day is slowly approaching but until it does, every new hero will be scrutinized by the media based on how diverse they are. Just ask Marvel, they€™ve been fielding complaints about the lack of a Black Widow solo movie since the day she was introduced. Now DC has the chance to learn from their mistakes.

Marvel has Captain Marvel on the go, as well as Wasp about to co-star with Ant-Man, but it might be a case of too little, too late. Despite being five years behind with their development, DC is going to get out of the gate first with Wonder Woman releasing in 2017.

From a racial standpoint, both DC and Marvel are planning to introduce some notable black superheroes next year that will subsequently get their own features. Cyborg and Black Panther are going to be debuting within months of each other, but Black Panther's solo feature will be Marvel€™s 18th film, while Cyborg's will only be DC€™s 10th.

DC€™s not really beating Marvel to the punch, but the fact that they€™re not waiting around for twelve movies before they decide to diversify already shows good judgment and media management on their part.
