Warner Bros. were pretty damn optimistic releasing Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword on May 12th in the U.S., just a week after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wreaked havoc on the global box office.

Granted, the gritty Arthurian reboot was already a risky-as-Hell prospect with its bloated $175 million budget, but going up against Marvel was essentially a suicide mission, and the movie was a colossal bomb as a result, not even making its budget back.

It probably would've been smarter to release the movie earlier in the year when blockbuster competition was much thinner, and above all else not up against the money-printing juggernaut that is Marvel. Warner Bros. sent this one out to die.
