BOX OFFICE: $13.5 million answered the CALL

Warner Brothers will actually be quite pleased this morning with the $13.5 million their horror remake ONE MISSED CALL made after a Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%!

Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%, it could have been a lot, lot worse. Budgeted at around $30 million, it will still have to make some money overseas and on DVD to be profitable and don't get me wrong it's still not a worthwhile venture for the studio but the damage has been limited with that taking. At number one for the third week in a row is NATIONAL TREASURE: THE BOOK OF SECRETS which is now only $2 million short of the original's final taking with $171 million after three weeks. Once it overtakes the 2004 original, it will be officially the highest grossing Nicolas Cage movie of all time. Will Smith's I AM LEGEND continues to take over the world, as it's now made $354 million worldwide and hasn't ran out of steam just yet. The amazing performance of the Indie flick JUNO continues and it really has secured itself as this year's LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE at this point, surpassing the amount that comedy movie last year made for Fox Searchlight. Another big $16.2 million taking over the weekend pushes up the film's total to $55 million in 33 days, only $10 million short of the domestic total of THE GOLDEN COMPASS. Who would have thought that 3 months ago? Here's another absolute shocker for you. This week ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS will overtake THE SIMPSONS MOVIE'S final gross of $183 million domestic. The live-action meets CGI fest has grossed $176.7 million and is now officially the highest earning talking animal or live action cartoon adaptation in history. And finally, ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM is just about done in theatres with a $4.2 million taking and it still hasn't managed the opening weekend total of it's predecessor. Franchise reboot on the cards. 1 National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) $20.2M $171M 2 I Am Legend (2007) $16.4M $229M 3 Juno (2007) $16.2M $52M 4 Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007) $16M $177M 5 One Missed Call (2008) $13.5M $13.5M 6 Charlie Wilson's War (2007) $8.18M $52.6M 7 P.S. I Love You (2007) $8.02M $39.4M 8 The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (2007) $6.3M $30.9M 9 Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) $5.4M $38.5M 10 Atonement (2007) $5.12M $19.2M source - box office mojo, imdb
